B+W Architects (BWA) is an architecture, design & fabrication studio directed by founding-Director Dr Nic Bao and co-Director Robin Wang. It is an ARBV (Architects Registration Board of Victoria) registered, Melbourne-based architecture firm with satellites in Shanghai and Hong Kong. It is a multidisciplinary design firm delivering architecture, interior design, urban design, parametric design and digital fabrication services across Australia and Asia.

BWA was founded by Dr Nic Bao in 2013, formerly known as BDWA and Studio Nic Bao, and Robin Wang joined BWA in 2021. BWA concentrates on delivering good designs of buildings and environments that improve the quality of life. At the same time, they are seeking to uncover new architectural methodologies and thoughts, pushing the possibilities of theories & realities and exploring internal & external implications of digital fabrication through novel programmatic concepts to new generative design and innovative fabrication techniques.

BWA has partnered with McBride Charles Ryan Architects (MCR), Denton Corker Marshall Architecture (DCM) and LAB Architecture on several International competitions & various types of projects.

Nic BAO

PhD MArch RAIA RIBA

Dr Nic Bao established B+W Architects in 2013 in Melbourne, he is a founding-Director, practising architect, researcher and educator. Nic is a registered architect with extensive practice experience in architectural practice having worked at Billard Leece Partnership, Cox Architecture, Noel Robinson Architects, Fender Katsalidis, Bates Smart and Architectus. He works across residential, hospitality, health, high-rise and mixed-use development.

 

Nic currently holds a position as a Lecturer in Architecture at RMIT University, School of Architecture and Urban Design. Before joining RMIT, he used to teach at the University of Melbourne, Monash University, Architectural Association (AAVS), and Tongji University as a sessional lecturer, unit tutor and studio leader.

Nic gained his PhD in Architecture and Civil Engineering from RMIT School of Architecture and Urban Design, and School of Engineering, a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Melbourne, and a Bachelor in Architecture from RMIT University. He also holds Australian Registered Architect (ARBV, RAIA), US Registered Architect (NCARB) and UK RIBA Chartered Architect. Nic is also a committee member of the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) - Education Committee.

Robin WANG

MArch RAIA 

 

Ms Robin Wang joined B+W Architects in 2018 as a graduate architect and became co-Director in 2021 after working for a couple of years in Denton Corker Marshall (DCM) Architecture and Team 2 Architects in Melbourne and Hong Kong. Robin worked on a wide range of healthcare and workplace projects from concept design, schematic design and town planning through to construction documentation. Robin also maintains a casual academic role within architecture programmes at the University of Melbourne and is often invited as guest crits at RMIT University.

Robin gained her Master of Architecture degree with Michael Kaufman Scholarship at from the University of Melbourne, and a Bachelor in Architecture with Golden Key Awards from RMIT University School of Architecture and Urban Design.
